Steady water supply finally returns to Carrot Bay

Steady water supply finally returns to Carrot Bay

Residents and businesses in Carrot Bay and the surrounding communities can once again enjoy a steady supply of potable water with the completion of restoration works on the reservoir that services that area.

The water plant in the vicinity of Cappoons Bay sustained extensive damages during the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017. Work had been on-going since then to repair and secure the plant in the event of a similar natural disaster.

According to a press release from Government Information Services, Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5) said he was satisfied with the completion of the restoration works and expressed his gratitude to the community for their patience.

“I commend all persons involved in the works of the Cappoons Bay Plant, and further thank you for your services. I also wish to thank the people of the Carrot Bay community for their patience during these long months without a steady water supply. I am elated that we have been able to complete these works to alleviate the inconvenience that you have been enduring,” Minister Rymer said.

Meanwhile, Director of the Water and Sewerage Department Mrs Perline R. Scatliffe-Leonard said, “I am happy to see an end result of this project. I am advising the residents that in order to build water levels during the day, water supply will be closed off at night from 9:30 pm.”

The Water and Sewerage Department is a customer-oriented Government department that facilitates a quality and affordable potable water supply and environmentally sound sewage disposal to all residents of the Virgin Islands at affordable rates.
