Stripe Announced It Will Start Building A Crypto Team, Seeking Engineers

Stripe recently posted job listing for four “Staff Engineer, Crypto” positions on its website. The Head of Engineering Crypto at Stripe, Guillaume Poncin, took it to Twitter to share the news that he is putting together a team of engineers and designers to integrate “crypto” into their platform.

The job listing reads:

“We hear a growing need from developers and users in that space for better building blocks to accept payments, move funds, exchange between fiat and crypto.

By focusing on these problems and needs, we aim to build faster, more trustworthy, and higher quality crypto-enabled experiences.”

Stripe is a major player in payments and has millions of users all around the world already in the platform, which makes Stripe a very potent gateway to drive crypto mass adoption. This was elaborated in the job listing: “Many businesses and users already rely on and trust in Stripe. This gives us a massive opportunity to be at the forefront of a new wave of innovation.”

Stripe has been for Bitcoin in the past. Back in 2014, the company started accepting BTC, but in 2018, due to transaction confirmation times and fees on the main chain, it stopped the support. Since then there have improvement in the problem areas: Lightning Network has scaled up and made Bitcoin viable as a means of exchange. Bitcoin can now be used as a means of payment without the long confirmation times and high fees, as transactions can be settled instantly for very low fees.
