‘Students & teachers of ESHS coming back home in 2022’- Premier

“Our students and teachers of ESHS are coming back home in 2022,” exclaimed Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), as he celebrated the completion of the demolition and site clearing work at Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) compound.

Sand Wise Limited was awarded $136,079.50 for the demolition and debris removal at ESHS. The contract was signed on December 2, 2021.

Project completed ahead of time!

And, according to Premier Fahie in a Facebook post on January 7, 2022, the project was completed ahead of time.

“You cannot get any clearer than this! The 1st phase of the Redevelopment of the Elmore Stoutt High School Campus since the destruction of many buildings by Irma in 2017 has been completed ahead of schedule.

“All the old foundations were demolished and removed.”

Premier Fahie continued that the contractor, Sand Wise Ltd, did an outstanding job and that the Minister for Education, Dr The Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has surveyed the now cleared property and is pleased.

“Now on to phase two as it is soon time for the construction of the new buildings. To GOD alone be all the GLORY!!! We're in this together,” Premier Fahie said.

What to expect

The Premier had stated in December that the initial phases of the school rebuilding project will see the construction of three two-storey buildings as a start on the eastern side of the ESHS campus.

This he said will be utilised in the longer term beyond the repatriation of the senior students in an acceptable classroom environment for Maintenance, Science and Technical Schools respectively.

Another phase will see the materialisation of 10 large classrooms to accommodate at least 25 students each, 25 small classrooms to accommodate some 18 students, a number of bathroom facilities and administrative rooms.

One of the first things the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) administration did when it came into office in 2019 was to repair the hurricane-damaged L. Adorothy Turnbull Building (formerly L-shaped Building) and return Junior School students to the ESHS campus.

It also brought an end to the shift system.
