Sugar Boys are BVIFA Super 6 Football Champions

Sugar Boys are BVIFA Super 6 Football Champions

Sugar Boys of Virgin Gorda have won the BVI Football Association's (BVIFA) Super 6 Championship, sweeping Lion Heart FC in the best of three finals with a 2-0 win at the FIFA Stadium in Long Look on Sunday, September 5, 2021.

After a goalless first half, in which Lion Heart created more goal-scoring opportunities, the Sugar Boys began to dominate in the second half.

After missing several chances, including some from point-blank range, the nerves were settled by a McGraw Baptiste penalty in the 53rd minute.

Lion Heart squander chances

Lion Heart; however, hit back strongly and were guilty of missing some guilt-edged chances to equalise.

A switch of tactics, which saw Terry Nanton move out wide, opened up play and gave the Sugar Boys some relief as well as the cushion of a second goal in the 87th minute when German Gonzalez latched onto a Nanton cross to put the result beyond doubt.

Baptiste was named MVP of the Final and Derol Redhead, also of the Sugar Boys, was named Tournament MVP.

The Sugar Boys also took home the winner’s cheque of $7000.
