Summer Sizzle BVI makes triumphant return!

Summer Sizzle BVI makes triumphant return!

Following a 2-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Summer Sizzle BVI made a “triumphant” return for its 12th anniversary this past weekend.

“And just like that Summer Sizzle BVI 2022 has come to an end. We’d like to thank all our sponsors, designers, models and of course our honoured guests. You all made this possible and our appreciation cannot be overstated,” stated fashion model guru and promoter of the annual event, Mr Terry T. Donovan.

Highlights

The weekend-long event started with a welcome party at Loose Mongoose followed by a Flora and Fauna Style Party held at Long Bay Beach Resort.

The big night was the Global Glamour Runway Show held for the first time at Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park on Saturday, July 23, 2022.

Challenges

According to Donavan, moving to the open-air location was a last-minute push, having arrived on the island to the news that the air-conditioning of the Multi-Purpose Complex was not in place as expected.

Based on feedback from several persons who attended the show; however, it was a great setup given the circumstances faced by the organisers.

Joel Steingold hosted runway show

The Global Glamour Runway Show hosted by Joel Steingold, currently seen as Marcus St John on the Showtime Series ‘The Chi Town’ and also features in the upcoming Disney Plus Series ‘The Crossover’. He has also appeared in roles on How To Get Away with Murder, Shameless, Hawaii 5-0, and the Muppets.

Steingold has said he “loves all things BVI.”

International designers

Several designers from the USA, Africa and the Caribbean were featured in this year’s edition of Summer Sizzle BVI.

The main designer was Sergio Hudson who made his first appearance at Summer Sizzle BVI after attracting major buzz at New York Fashion Week and for his game-changing outfit worn by Michelle L. R. Obama at President Joseph R. Biden’s inauguration.

The show also featured a children’s show, produced by Khaliah Clark, Award Winning Fashion Stylist in partnership with Sunni Dai Kids Fashion Week known for their Kids Show in LA, NYC and Miami.

Arts Fund

According to Donovan, this year’s Summer Sizzle BVI sought to launch its Arts Fund aimed at providing scholarships and opportunities to students wishing to pursue careers in fashion, beauty, and the arts, to continue to shine a spotlight on youth education in the VI.
