‘Suspicious’ boat fires attract Criminal Investigations

Over the last 24 hours, at least seven vessels on Tortola were destroyed by fire in two separate incidents fire, capturing the attention of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).
A media release from the RVIPF said the CID has since launched a probe into the two incidents which they have described as suspicious.

One of the vessel fires happened in Freshwater Pond, West End while the other happened at Road Reef.

“In the fire near Big Ben’s Gas Station reported just before 10 pm last night, two boats were destroyed and one partially damaged, while at Road Reef Marina, a fire reported around 5 am this morning destroyed one catamaran and four motor vessels,” the police stated.

“CID detectives are asking the public for any information that can help in identifying the perpetrator(s) or anyone concerned in carrying out such acts to provide that information confidentially through CrimeStoppers by calling 800-8477 (TIPS) or if overseas call 1-284-800-8477,” the RVIPF added.
