Symorne Penn is acting head as Abraham retires from BVIEC!

Managing Director of the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) Leroy Abraham has officially retired from the organisation.
According to a Cabinet document only released last Thursday, Abraham’s retirement from the government-owned power company took effect since December 31, 2022.

During a Cabinet meeting in February, the executive body of government decided that Symorne Penn, Deputy General Manager, be granted “an acting appointment in the post of General Manager for a period of three months until the recruitment process for the post of General Manager is completed.”

Abraham’s retirement brings to an end 35 years of service to the BVIEC, 21 of which was spent as managing head of the organisation.

The public first received indications that Abraham would not be returning as General Manager some time last September when a vacancy notice for his post was published on the BVIEC’s social media page.

The notice said: “BVI Electricity Corporation is seeking an energetic, result-oriented and high-calibre professional candidate to fill the position of General Manager.”

The power company further said the successful candidate will be largely responsible for working to meet the electrical transmission and distribution needs of the territory, and working regionally and nationally on key resource issues.
