The details of the new stipend were revealed by Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) at yesterday’s September 22, 2021, sitting of the House of Assembly held at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom, Tortola.
“Just to remind persons these $300 stipends really has to do with the monies that teachers expend to be able to buy their resources to get their classrooms ready,” the Minister said.
He said the funds were requested by teachers to be able to purchase learning resources to get the classroom ready for the new school year.
Meanwhile, Dr Wheatley said the upcoming salary review for the public service will also include teachers.
“We are going to review the salaries and make sure that persons within the entire public service are being paid in a way that's commensurate with their qualifications and their experience and also their impact,” he said.
