The wellness center behavioral clinic administers first independent autisum spectrum disorder (ASD) testing in the territory
In the month of November, The Wellness Center Behavioral Clinic administered the first independent psychological intake, testing and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the Territory.
This was a significant milestone for The Wellness Center as well as the entire Territory.
In 2019, The Wellness Centre, in collaboration with the McLain Association for children based in Pal Alto, California and the Ministry of Education, assessed over 35 children in the Territory for ASD.
Fast-forward to this year, The Wellness Centre now has the capabilities to independently assess a child for ASD .
Child Psychologist at the Wellness Center, Ms. Jane Merrihy specializes in assessment of ASD, among other child specific issues, and provides a range of therapeutic interventions.
Dr. Michael A. Turnbull, Director of The Wellness Center, expressed his sentiments towards the notable milestone.
Dr. Turnbull said that “being able to diagnose Autism here locally can help families that may not have the ability to travel, or pay high out of pocket fees, find answers and be treated locally. It is a significant privilege to be able offer ethical and efficient assessments using gold standard psychological assessment tools.”
The ASD assessment is funded in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Agency (NHI).
