Thea Cooke opens ‘The Bass Spot’ music school & studio

It was an emotional morning for a young teacher of the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) when she took her craft to another level by broadening her opportunity to impact the lives of persons in the music industry.

This morning April 2, 2022, one of Ms Thea Cooke’s dreams was realized when she cut the ribbon to open her first Music school, ‘The Bass Spot,’ at Botanic Station, Road Town, Tortola.

Hundreds witnessed the opening live on JTV where Ms Cooke shared her joy which was also expressed with some tears.

While she continues to impact the lives of students at the ESHS where she teaches Bass and Percussion, Ms Cooke is now also able to provide tutoring privately at her new studio

“One of the things I always promise myself that I would always do as a musician, it to definitely share my skills, share my talent with everybody as much as I can,” she said.

Sharing music insight

“We are not here forever,” Ms Cooke added, “and people coming along the way, some persons been there already so the most you can do is share and give insights on what you know and what you learn and I think there is no greater time than now to do this.”

Theo added that she is very grateful for the assistance she received from several persons which resulted in her not having to secure a bank loan to build on her dream.

Among those who assisted were her mother and other close family and friends, including Minister for Transportation Works and Utilities Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5) and Junior Minister for Tourism Honourable Sharie B. deCastro (AL), both of whom were present this morning to witness the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The school will start off with five children of District 5 as sponsored by Hon Rymer in addition to the facility being opened for booking for other music-related purposes.
