Thousands of Children, Especially Those of Color, Strip-Searched by Police in England and Wales: New Data Reveals Alarming Racial Disparity
Over 60 children under the age of 18 in England and Wales were strip-searched by police each week in the year leading up to March 2023, amounting to 3,122 searches.
Out of 41 police forces, 68,874 strip searches were conducted in total.

Only 45% of children had their ethnic background recorded as white, while 60% of adults did.
Russell described the practice as "deeply disturbing" and emphasized that strip-searching children should only occur in exceptional circumstances with an adult present.
