Too Big! Master Plan for ESHS being crafted – Minister

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Dr. Hon. Natalio Wheatley has revealed that plans are in the works for a master plan for the Territory’s largest secondary school – the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS).
The Deputy Premier revealed his plans for the educational facility and others during the House of Assembly’s sitting on Tuesday, May 11.

He informed that plans are underway to have a junior high school in West End, East End and in a central location.

He said for the West End facility it will be on the site of the Isabella Morris Primary in Carrot Bay as the nearby Leonora Delville Primary in Cappoons Bay can accommodate students from the aforesaid school, which sustained damages during the 2017 weather events and funds were already allotted in this year’s budget.

"Of course we are going to have a junior high school in central, and that building is actually being designed as we speak, and we are going to be coming to the various stakeholders with the master plan for the Elmore Stoutt High School. We all should be concerned, these schools are too big, especially the ESHS; we have to cut down the size, so it’s easier to manage.,” Hon. Wheately shared.

The Minister who was at the time contributing to the debate on the Financing and Money Services (Amendment) Act 2021.

He said the 7% tax that would be disbursed to five sectors, including education, would be “a worthy cause for the money to go towards.”

“Mr. Speaker, the money has to come from somewhere, and these same educational institutions benefit persons not just from the BVI but from other places as well,” He further remarked.

Importantly, the former Education Minister Myron Walwyn under the NDP administration had announced that considerations were being made to implement junior high schools in the same locations.
