Tortola Lions Club president donates trees for replanting

With the help of students and a crew of workers from Tye Design and Finishing, the Tortola Lions Club on Saturday uprooted 45 coconut trees from the yard of club president Kedrick Malone, and then replanted the trees at Long Bay, Beef Island.
“The 45 trees were a gift from Hurricane Maria, who knocked down all five coconut trees in my yard in 2017,” Mr. Malone wrote in a Nov. 24 Facebook post. “Over the past two years, the coconuts from the fallen trees grew into an orchard of over 75 trees. I was happy to have them planted at Long Bay beach, my childhood beach of many fond memories, whose landscape and plant life was altered by the hurricane.”
