Tory leadership race latest: Kemi Badenoch eliminated in fourth round

Kemi Badenoch is out of the race to become the next Prime Minister after the fourth round of MP voting. Ms Badenoch, the former equalities minister, ran an impressive and insurgent campaign which saw her spring a surprise by reaching the final four. She crashed out with 59 votes.
A spokesman for Ms Badenoch said: "This is a great achievement and demonstrates the support for her honest politics and vision of change for the country and the Conservative Party."

Rishi Sunak topped the fourth MPs' poll on 118 votes, adding three from his tally yesterday, while Penny Mordaunt came second adding 10 supporters to reach 92. Liz Truss, the Foreign Secretary, placed third with 86 votes - 15 more than she received yesterday.

Today's result sets up a battle royale between Ms Mordaunt and Ms Truss for the coveted second spot as MPs decide on the final two candidates tomorrow.
