Total system shutdown on Saturday being investigated- BVIEC

The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) has said it is investigating the cause of the island-wide power outage that occurred on Saturday morning, May 6, 2023.

In a press release today, May 9, 2023, BVIEC said at approximately 10:17 AM on Saturday last, a fault occurred at the Henry Wilfred Smith Power Station at Pockwood Pond, which resulted in a total system shutdown.

“The entire grid was restored by 2:55 PM and the cause of the fault is currently under investigation,” BVIEC stated.

The Corporation said it would like to thank the public for its patience and it regrets any inconvenience caused.

BVIEC says the cause of the fault is currently under investigation.
