Town & Country Planning cracks down on unauthorised billboards
The Department of Town & Country Planning is cracking down on individuals and organisations erecting election billboards without authorisation.
Town & Country Planning said in a recent statement that the public erection of election campaign billboards is “strictly prohibited unless approval has been granted by the department.
“Permission for the erection of any billboard structures must be sought from the Planning Authority in advance,” the statement said.
The warning comes days after a billboard collapsed on a vehicle that was parked in the Road Town capital recently.
When our news centre arrived at the scene near Fishlock Road on the day in question, the extent of the damage to the vehicle was not immediately visible.
It was also unclear what caused the wooded structure to fall and to whom it belonged as there was no images mounted on the downed structure at the time.
A number of billboards have been erected across the territory, signalling the election season where political candidates and parties campaign to increase their chances of getting elected.
General elections are constitutionally due on April 24.
