'Tremendous work' ongoing to implement CoI reforms in VI – Premier

Virgin Islands Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) said the Framework for the Implementation of the Recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) Report and other Reforms continues to be coordinated by a Steering Group which has been meeting regularly to receive progress reports amidst more tremendous work from Government and other parties.

Speaking during August 10, 2022, press conference, Dr the Hon Wheatley said the group also identifies any potential challenges and to collaborate on solutions.

“As the coordinating ministry, the Premier’s Office continues to support the other ministries and reviewers in fulfilling their obligations under the plan,” he added.

The Premier detailed that to date, a few members of staff have been assigned to the Implementation Unit and work has commenced on developing the budget for the Unit and for implementing the recommendations, drafting the implementation plan and a communications strategy.

The staff are also reviewing policy documents and developing terms of reference for the reviewers.

Recruitment of addition staff to come


The Premier said while recruitment of additional staff is at an advanced stage, within the coming week more information will be issued to provide further details.

Hon Wheatley said amongst other progress, the Government of National Unity, the public officers in the respective Ministries, and all parties including the Governor and the Governor’s Group are working hard and are seriously committed to delivering the implementation plan.

“A tremendous amount of work continues to be undertaken to deliver the recommendations and I wish to commend and express sincere gratitude to the dedicated public officers who have been working diligently to meet the stipulated deadlines,” he added.
