TS Fiona forces postponement of HLSCC College Classic VG Race

Tropical Storm activity in the Virgin Islands has forced the postponement of the annual H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC), 'College Classic Races' now in its 27th year.

As a result of Tropical Storm Fiona, the college has indicated that a decision has been made to postpone Race 1 in Virgin Gorda originally set for today, September 17, 2022, until October 1, 2022, due to the storm activity.

The Virgin Islands Department of Disaster Management (DDM) this morning, reported that the storm is some 123 miles south of Virgin Gorda as of 8:00 am this morning.

More storm activity in VI

Couple with high winds, the DDM said gusts may pick up and be felt more in certain areas, especially those that live in hilly areas where there is a threat that the rains will bring flooding to the VI.

The DDM added that due to these heavy rainfalls, flash flooding warnings and or advisory may also be issued.

Meanwhile, for persons looking to partake in the races on October 1, 2022, they can register at 6:30 am on the new date, with the races starting at 7:00 am sharp.
