Twitter isn't letting users view the site without logging in

Twitter appears to be restricting access to its platform for anyone not logged into an account. Change Sparks Speculation on Twitter's Strategy as it Seeks to Boost User Base
Twitter has introduced access restrictions that require users to log in to their accounts in order to view the platform, marking a departure from its previous practice of allowing non-logged-in users to freely browse the homepage and public accounts.

Previously, individuals without a Twitter account or those who were not logged in could scroll through the platform's homepage and access public tweets. However, starting this week, these users are greeted with a prompt to either sign up or sign in to Twitter upon opening the platform.

Late this week, internet users began noticing the change, and on Friday, multiple CNN reporters confirmed that they were unable to access Twitter without logging in. The motive behind this alteration remains unclear, leaving room for speculation about whether it is an intentional policy update or a technical glitch. Twitter has yet to provide a comment on the matter.

This development comes as billionaire owner Elon Musk takes steps to overhaul Twitter's operations following several months of challenges since his acquisition of the platform late last year. Assisted by new CEO Linda Yaccarino, Musk aims to attract advertisers back to the platform after concerns surrounding increased hate speech, layoffs, and questions about the company's direction led many to withdraw their support. Additionally, Musk is seeking to expand subscription revenue through the introduction of a blue verification checkmark offered to users who sign up for the Twitter Blue service.

The decision to restrict public access to Twitter could be a strategic move aimed at bolstering the platform's user base, which has consistently lagged behind social media competitors like Facebook and Instagram. By encouraging users to create accounts or log in, Twitter aims to increase engagement and enhance its position within the highly competitive social media landscape.

As Twitter undergoes these changes, the implications for user experience, engagement, and the overall direction of the platform remain uncertain. Whether this access restriction will be a temporary glitch or a long-term strategy to reshape Twitter's user base is yet to be revealed, leaving users and industry observers intrigued about the platform's future trajectory.
