Two charged after police uncover ‘hidden’ gun, bullets in vehicle
The police have charged a man and a woman after reportedly recovering an illegal gun from a vehicle they were travelling in on Wednesday, November 4.
Charged with ‘carrying an unlicensed firearm’ and ‘unlawful possession of ammunition’ are 44-year-old Jamaican, David Cummings, and 56-year-old Guyanese, Lynette Sommersell.
The police said in a press statement Thursday afternoon that the weapon - a 9mm pistol with eight bullets - was uncovered after officers of the Armed Response Unit stopped the duo’s vehicle during an operation early yesterday morning.
According to law enforcers, the illicit items were “found hidden in the vehicle”.
The accused duo will appear in Magistrate’s Court at the next available sitting.
Meanwhile, the police said this is the second firearm seizure made in the last month and the third seizure of ammunition.
“On October 15, a search warrant was executed on a home in Baughers Bay and a loaded firearm with a magazine and seven rounds of ammunition were uncovered. Charges are pending in this matter. In an unrelated matter, on October 12, a search executed on a premise at Palestina Estate uncovered three rounds of ammunition. Omari Roberts, 25, was subsequently charged with unlawful possession of ammunition in this matter.”
