Two injured, one dead in USVI shooting

Two men were injured and a third died during a shooting incident that occurred in Sion Farm Friday morning, May 21, 2021, according to USVI Public Information Officer Toby Derima.
According to the news release, on Friday at 11:55 a.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a call of shots fired near a residence in Sion Farm. Officers traveled to the location and found three Black males, including a minor, who sustained gunshot wounds.

The victims were transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center via ambulance for treatment. One of the victims, who was critically wounded, succumbed to his injuries a short time later at the hospital.

He was identified by family members as 23-year-old David Semper of Anna’s Hope. The other two victims were listed in serious but fair condition, Mr. Derima said.

According to the release, an investigation into the incident revealed that the men were shot by a single assailant who approached the area on foot, who then fled the area in a waiting vehicle.

Friday's homicide carries the territory's total for 2021 to twenty-one, with the overwhelming majority of the deaths — eighteen — occurring on St. Croix, followed by St. Thomas with two, and St. John with one.
