The UK has chartered a flight to evacuate British nationals from Lebanon due to escalating violence in the region.

The flight will depart from Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport on Wednesday.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy described the situation as 'volatile' and urged British nationals to leave immediately.

Eligible passengers include British nationals and their families, with vulnerable individuals prioritized.

Currently, 5,000 British nationals and dual citizens reside in Lebanon.

Recent Israeli raids on Hezbollah have exacerbated tensions, resulting in 95 deaths according to Lebanon's health ministry.

British military resources have been deployed to Cyprus in preparation for further evacuations, although immediate departure is recommended.

Lammy emphasized the urgency, mentioning secured spaces on commercial flights and ongoing talks for an immediate ceasefire with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
