UK Climate Watchdog: Less Ambitious on Net Zero than Previously
The Climate Change Committee (CCC) head, Chris Stark, has expressed concerns to the BBC that the UK's stance on climate change under the current government has become less ambitious compared to previous administrations.
In an exclusive interview with Laura Kuenssberg on Sunday, Stark stated that Downing Street's approach to climate change has sent a signal to the global community that the UK is now less committed to reducing emissions than it once was.
He added that the prime minister has not prioritized the issue as much as his predecessors.
The Climate Change Committee is a government body that provides independent advice to ministers and evaluates progress towards climate targets.
In response to Stark's comments, a government spokesperson maintained that the UK's record on net zero emissions speaks for itself.
