UK Launches National Investigation into NHS Maternity Failings
Inquiry covers worst-performing services after widespread scandals
The UK government has initiated a national investigation into NHS maternity services following a string of scandals resulting in multiple deaths of mothers and babies.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting announced that up to ten of the worst‑performing units will be scrutinized, with a full system‑wide review due by December 2025.
The inquiry will be supported by a new National Maternity and Neonatal Taskforce, including experts and bereaved families, aiming to drive urgent improvements in care.
