Sources have indicated that St Claire Amory will now take up the post of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Operations & Ms Jacqueline E. Vanterpool is now DCP Support. Mr Amory had previously served as acting Assistant Commissioner while Ms Vanterpool has been Acting Deputy Commissioner since January 2022.
The new appointments were approved by the National Security Council and Ms Trevillion joins the force after a career in law enforcement in the UK where she served as Superintendent Crime Manager for the Devon and Cornwell Police force before being posted to the Falkland Islands.
While working for the Government of the Falkland Islands, she served as Government Director with direct leadership responsibility for the Royal Falkland Islands Police, Prison and Probation Service, Fire and Rescue Service, Falkland Islands Defence Force, Falkland Islands Maritime Authority, Customs and Immigration including Principal Immigration Officer according to her Linked-in profile.
Sources indicated that the force will now be hunting internally for a new Superintendent of Police and Chief Inspector to replace Ms Vanterpool and Mr Amory respectively.
Since the news, some critics have stated that there was no need to import an Assistant Commissioner of Police from the UK when there are many local Senior Inspectors who are qualified to carry out the post.
Many see this as a backend way for the Police Commissioner, Mr Mark Collins to run the force with his Assistant Commissioner overlooking both the Deputy Commissioners.
