The Atlantic hurricane season may be active this year due to warm sea surface temperatures, but the effect of El Niño on the formation of tropical cyclones is uncertain.

John Rankin has warned that the Atlantic Basin could see as many as six hurricanes during the 2023 season, with two expected to become major hurricanes of category-three strength or higher.
However, the DDM's Information Manager cautions that one named storm does not necessarily indicate the number of storms predicted for the season.
