'Unfair': Caller tells Hon Penn to stop bashing Gov’t's decisions

One weary caller to the NDP radio show has urged the Opposition Leader, Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), to stop bashing the government’s COVID-19 strategy, adding that the previous National Democratic Party (NDP) administration did little to support citizens after the hurricanes of 2017.

“That is very unfair the way you are just bashing the decisions of the government, you are part of a government who never took on the people of this country,” the female caller said on the radio show of November 2, 2020, on ZBVI 780AM.

Referencing the destructive hurricanes of 2017, the caller said NDP, “never thought about them [citizens] at the time when they had the greatest disaster that you could find, where families still at this point living with relatives but they can't get their house roofs put back on."

The female caller interjected at a time when the Opposition Leader, along with the show’s moderator, Aaron F. Parillon, had been criticising the government’s COVID-19 strategy and economic plans surrounding the tourism sector re-opening, accusing the administration of causing anxiety and depression.

“I would like to ask Honorable Marlon Penn would he said that the country is suffering from greater anxiety now or when we had the hurricane?” she questioned.

According to the Opposition Leader, the assessment by the caller was inaccurate given his then administration tried to move the economy forward after the disaster as well as bring support to citizens.

He said the economic numbers after the hurricanes were some of the strongest due to the strategies implemented by the then administration.

“You are not selling what you are selling on the radio. There are those of us who know a lot of what you are trying to sell,” the caller said before ending the conversation.

The Opposition Leader said people remain fearful for their lives with regards to COVID-19; however, that wasn’t the case with the hurricanes.
