Softball player George Burrows was allegedly shot while in bedroom

Well known softball player George Burrows, 54, was reportedly shot to death while he was asleep in his own bedroom, according to reports reaching our newsroom.

Burrows, who had featured in the latest softball league that ended on August 16, 2020, was fatally shot to the head while at his Purcell Estate home sometime after 9:00pm last night, Wednesday, September 2, 2020.

‘Tall, hooded gunman’


Information reaching our newsroom is that a ‘tall, hooded gunman’ entered the home of Burrows and shot him while he was asleep in his bedroom.

Neighbours reported hearing 2 gunshots.

At least 4 other persons were reportedly in the home at the time.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) in a press release today, September 3, 2020, said its officers responded to a report received after 9:30pm on September 2, 2020, of a shooting in Purcell Estate.

“On arrival one male was found with what appeared to be a gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead at the scene.”

Gunman fled on foot


Police said the deceased is confirmed to be George Burrows who resided at Purcell Estate.

“It is alleged that he was shot by an unknown assailant who fled on foot,” the press release stated.

“All information will be treated with discretion and confidentiality will be assured,” police said.
