US Treasury sanctions Russian research institute over alleged links to dangerous malware

US Treasury sanctions Russian research institute over alleged links to dangerous malware

The United States has imposed sanctions on the State Research Center of the Russian Federation FGUP Central Scientific Research Institute of Chemistry and Mechanics, the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) stated.
"The following entity has been added to OFAC's SDN [Specially Designated Nationals] List: STATE RESEARCH CENTER OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION FGUP CENTRAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF CHEMISTRY AND MECHANICS", a Treasury Department notice said.

According to US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, the Russian government is continuing to engage in dangerous cyber activities aimed at the US and its allies. He also noted that the current administration will protect the critical infrastructure of the United States from anyone attempting to disrupt it.

The United States has imposed sanctions against Russia on numerous occasions and under various pretexts: Crimea's reunification with Russia, accusations of Russia’s alleged invasion of Ukraine, and allegations of Moscow’s interference in US elections.

The Kremlin views US sanctions against the country and its entities as a continuation of a destructive policy that damages bilateral relations and constitutes unfair competition on the global market.
