USVI authorities seize over $700k from vessel bound for VI

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in the US Virgin Islands (USVI) reportedly found and confiscated over $700,000 of undeclared cash on a vessel in Gallows Bay, Christiansted, St Croix on Thursday, August 4, 2022.
According to reports, the vessel originated from Puerto Rico and was en route to the [British] Virgin Islands (VI) but stopped in Gallows Bay to offload cargo bound for St Croix.

According to VI Consortium today, August 8, 2022, once at the port, CBP officials conducted a routine search of the vessel and found the undeclared cash.

It said CBP has not issued a release on the matter.

Thursday's finding was not the first of its kind in the US territory. In August 2020, CBP officers seized undeclared currency totaling $27 million found inside boxes bound to St Thomas on Norma H.
