USVI man arrested after allegedly assaulting girlfriend & her minor child

Officers with the [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) on Saturday, April 2, 2022, arrested a man in Grove Place for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and her minor child.
According to the VIPD release, on Saturday at about 8:04 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a disturbance in progress in Grove Place, and members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau responded. During the investigation, it was disclosed that Rene Joseph grabbed his girlfriend by the throat and strangled her until she could not breathe. He also threatened to stab her with a knife.

The adult female’s minor child attempted to assist her but was also assaulted by Joseph, the VIPD said.

Joseph, 43, was placed under arrest and charged with second-degree assault, brandishing and exhibiting a dangerous weapon, third-degree assault, and aggravated assault and battery.

No bail was set as per the territory's domestic violence statute pending the suspect's advisement hearing. He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections.
