USVI residents to recieve stimulus checks in the second week of February

The Bryan administration announced during its weekly Covid-19 press briefing Monday that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (B.I.R.) is expected to rollout the second round of CARES Act stimulus checks in the second week of February.
Speaking during the briefing, Gov’t House Communications Director Richard Motta used slides to further explain the requirements to be eligible for this round of stimulus payments.

This distribution is part of the Tax Relief Act of 2020 and the second checks will be based on 2019 income tax returns. The tax year 2018 cannot be used to make the second stimulus payment, said Mr. Motta.

Taxpayers who did not work in 2019 and do not normally have to file a return, are asked to file a 1040 form for 2019 and place $1 on the interest line. This form must be filed by March 15, 2021.

Taxpayers who did not get the first stimulus check will be able to receive the latest payment by filing the 1040 form for the year 2020. This 2020 form is due on April 15, 2021.

Social Security recipients who do not have a filing requirement do not need to file a return. B.I.R. will use the information provided by the Internal Revenue Service for the first stimulus payment to determine the second payment.
