Premier Fahie in a Thursday, May 20, 2021, statement said while the protocols continue to work, “the more we open our economy, the more we increase the risk of COVID-19 coming to the shores. But our protocols will help us to keep it secure.”
The Premier said that even as the territory has low infection rates with the majority having been captured under the Day-0 testing and the Day-4 testing, vaccination is still a major factor in the fight.
“I cannot leave without saying that while I respect the views and the rights of those who do not believe in the vaccine, as a government we continue to push and encourage persons to be vaccinated. “
Hon Fahie continued, “Because it is the only credible option that we do have at this time to ensure that we fight COVID-19 as best as we can and save lives and livelihoods.”
While the Government has been pushing vaccination, it has maintained that the vaccine is not mandatory for those opting not to take it.
The Premier also said that in the future, he will bring more proposals that explore VI's economic prospects and what is being done now, however, he reminded that COVID-19 will still be a major factor.
