Active COVID-19 cases in the Virgin Islands (VI) have reached 61 with 1 hospitalization according to the latest epidemiology report from the Government of the Virgin Islands (VI).
This comes as Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone had said it was troubling that a large number of cases in the VI had originated in the community.
According to the latest epidemiology report, for testing done on September 23, and reported on the 24th, some 43 of the total active cases were detected in close contacts of existing cases with 15 on Tortola and a whopping 46 in Virgin Gorda.
It remains unclear what measures have been taken to contain the spread of the virus on the sister island, however, sources have indicated that the majority of cases may have originated at one location.
To date, some 81,711 test samples from 76,446 persons were tested at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital Laboratory in the VI.
