VG Man granted $70K bail in Paraquita Bay wounding

VG Man granted $70K bail in Paraquita Bay wounding

After hearing no objections from the Crown represented by Director of Public Prosecutions, Tiffany R. Scatliffe-Esprit, Senior Magistrate Tamia N. Richards granted George Legair Jr. bail for $70,000 with two signed sureties when he appeared in court virtually on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.

Legair Jr, who was represented by Attorney Reynela Rawlins, was charged with Wounding with Intent for unlawfully and maliciously wounding Keon Leonard, 31 of Botanic Station, Tortola.

During his arraignment, he was not required to enter a plea because the matter is indictable and heading to the High Court.

Among his bail conditions, Legair Jr is to surrender his travel documents to the police, report to the Virgin Gorda Police Station three times a week and have no contact with the witnesses in the matter.

He is slated to return to court on January 27, 2021, via zoom.

Allegations

According to Scatliffe-Esprit, the defendant, Legair Jr., a Heavy Equipment Operator on the sister island of Virgin Gorda, was at Bouncer’s Bar on Tortola on the night of November 1, 2020.

On the night in question, the defendant was with friends, one of whom was a woman who has two children with the VC, but they are no longer romantically involved.

While there the VC showed up and attempted to have a conversation with the said woman and her best friend, but the woman walked away.

Later, when the women passed the defendant’s truck, the defendant inquired what was wrong as he was also a friend to the VC’s children mother, and she looked upset.

At that time, the VC overheard the defendant speaking to the woman and started to become verbally aggressive. He started cursing at the accused saying, “What are you asking that for? What is wrong with you?” among other profanities.

The accused then responded, “what are you going to do? I’m not talking to you.”

A scuffle ensued between the two men despite efforts by friends to part the men.

Stabbing

Allegations are that the accused was armed with a black spider knife and allegedly inflicted stab wounds to the VC.

The accused sustained injuries to his left hand and the VC sustained multiple stab wounds about his body, inuding one to his left leg, and a large one to his left abdominal region, which caused his large intestines to fall out.

The VC is still in intensive care at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital.
