VG Residents To Have Say In Easter Festival

A little over a month after the unexpected resignation of the entire Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee, Minister for Culture, Dr. the Hon. Natalio Wheatley will finally meet with residents of that sister island to discuss the the way forward for the festival.
The meeting will take place at the Village Cafe today Wednesday, November 6 at 6:00 p.m; and it is expected to be interactive.

“Persons are asked to come prepared to discuss the way forward for the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival and to indicate their interest by joining the various areas of the festival’s sub-committee.”

All six of the executive members of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival sub-committee resigned with immediate effect in a letter dated September 18 that was sent to Minister with responsibility for Culture Dr. the Hon. Natalio Wheatley, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Culture Caroline Igwe, Ninth District Representative, Hon. Vincent Wheatley and Chair of the Festival and Fairs Committee.

Following the resignation, Hon. Wheatley announced that he was going to convene a meeting on Virgin Gorda to speak with the residents of that sister island. During that interview the Minister in a ZBVI radio interview on September 26 thanked the members who resigned for their service; and mentioned that efforts will be made to form a new Committee.

Hon. Wheatley said that he wanted to meet with the people of Virgin Gorda to hear their views.

“I want to have a meeting with the Virgin Gorda community. I had one following Virgin Gorda Easter Festival. We made a lot of notes and came up with a lot of ways in which we can improve it and I am going to be having another meeting shortly,” Hon. Wheatley announced.

The next Virgin Gorda Festival will occur in five months and the Minister also mentioned that interests in membership has already been expressed but discussion will take place at the meeting.

“At that meeting we can get persons who are interested. I already have persons who have expressed interest in forming a new Committee, so we’ll be able to discuss the way forward for the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival and to get persons who would like to participate,” the Minister said.
