VG United shock Sugar Boys as BVIFA National League resumes

The BVI Football Association (BVIFA) National Football League resumed last weekend and there was a shock win for VG United, who defeated powerhouse Sugar Boys on Sunday, October 18, 2020.

Jevonne Demming notched what turned out to be the only goal in an intense ‘el classico’ at the Virgin Gorda Recreation Ground.

At the same venue, One Love and Old Madrid battled to a 1-1 draw after Richard Morgan scored the game leveller in the 50th minute following Kenmore Peters’ opener in the 9th minute.

The Islanders grabbed all 3 points from a close 2-1 win over Lionheart with Sheldon Harry notching the winner in the 89th minute.

Kevin Fisher scored the opener in th 56th minute before Sheldon Brown equalised in the 65th minute.

Playing at the East End venue, One Caribbean overcame Rebels 4-2.

Chadwick Evans scored in the 12th and 53rd minutes to sandwich goals from Kelvin Glasgow and an own goal.

The Rebels came to life in the waning minutes to soften the score line, as Curtly Peters hit the net in the 77th minute and Julian Davidson scored from the penalty spot in the 82nd.

Rounding out the first weekend back was a 2-0 win for the Wolues against the Panthers. Noel Maxwell scored the opener in the 25th minute and Chester James made sure of full points in the 78th minute.

Play continues today, Sunday, October 25, 2020, with one game at FIFA Stadium in East End and a double header at Virgin Gorda Recreation Ground.

At 4:00pm, Rebels come up against Islanders at East End.

Over on Virgin Gorda, VG United and One Caribbean clash from 5:45pm and Sugar Boys and Panthers square off from 8:00pm.
