VI Curfew Order extended until Sept 4, 2021

Governor of the Virgin Islands (VI), His Excellency Governor John J. Rankin CMG has extended the national curfew to run from 11:00 pm to 05:00 am curfew until September 4, 2021.

The curfew will take effect from tonight Saturday, August 21, 2021, as per the powers conferred on the Governor by sections three and four of the Curfew Act, 2017 (No. 20 of 2017) and published in the Gazette on August 20, 2021.

“No person shall be on the streets, and every person shall remain confined to their place of residence (inclusive of their yard space), from the date this Order comes into force to Saturday, 4th September 2021, between the hours of 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily,” the order said.

Some workers exempted


The Curfew is for the purpose of suppressing the spread of COVID-19 and to protect persons in the territory, however, it stated that there were some classes of people that the curfew shall not apply to such as some senior and essential government workers.

The Order is, in addition, is not applicable to the heads of departments in the public service, heads of statutory corporations, persons employed in essential services, judges and magistrates, persons employed in mortuary services, humanitarian support, media, and broadcast providers, agricultural workers, fisherfolks, and teachers, among others, travelling to and from work.
