VI ‘dead in the water’ if faced with another lockdown– Skelton-Cline

With the Virgin Islands (VI) currently at 9 active COVID-19 cases and aggressive contact tracing on the way following a possible super-spreader event, local health authorities have called on citizens to voluntary vaccinate against the virus.

These sentiments were also echoed by ‘Honestly Speaking,’ radio presenter Claude O. Skelton-Cline, who urged persons in the territory to not procrastinate but to vaccinated as a matter of priority.

“Anytime you see we don’t get herd immunity in this country… and you see COVID-19 coming here, which it will, and any variant which they will, and this government is forced to shut this country down, we are dead in the water,” he said.

Mr Skelton-Cline was at the time speaking on the March 30, 2021, edition of His Honestly Speaking show on ZBVI 780 AM.

According to the Territory’s latest Epidemiological Survey, 6 of current the cases are on Tortola, 2 on Virgin Gorda and one on a vessel at a location that was not disclosed.

Get Vaccinated!

He specifically called on Virgin Islanders to get vaccinated which he said would ultimately pave the way for the territory to fully re-open economically.

“You should have been scared to no end, this past weekend,” he said referencing the funeral where a COVID-19 positive person had attended and exposed a large gathering to the virus.

“We cannot afford it,” Skelton-Cline said regarding another possible lockdown in the territory; however, reiterated that individuals right to not get vaccinated should not become a health threat to the rest of the VI.

“Take advantage, don’t let these vaccines expire… let's not, having been able to make all the sacrifice last year, and then waste that sacrifice now come March, April, May of 2021,” he said.
