VI extends travel ban on UK, DR, Brazil & South Africa

The Virgin Islands has extended the travel ban on the United Kingdom (UK), Dominican Republic (DR), Brazil and South Africa, as those countries continue to struggle with managing their COVID-19 situation, including variants of the virus.

Travel bans were first placed on the United Kingdom and the Dominican Republic on January 11, 2021, and Brazil and South Africa were added to the list on January 28, 2021.

The Immigration and Passport (Prohibition of Entry) Order, 2021, had expired on March 11, 2021.

The new Order, signed by Governor John J. Rankin, CMG came into force on March 12, 2021, and shall cease to apply on May 31, 2021, unless “the time period prescribed herein is extended by the Governor by Order after consultation with the Minister, for such further period as may be specified.”

Travel bans were first placed on the United Kingdom and the Dominican Republic on January 11, 2021, and Brazil and South Africa were added to the list on January 28, 2021.

There have been nearly 4.3 million confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK and more than 126,000 people have died, government figures show.

Public safety

The Order, put in place to promote public safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, does not apply to certain categories of persons coming to the territory.

These include nationals, belongers, residents, work permit holders, persons permitted to reside in the territory, diplomats and persons employed by government and statutory agencies.

Those returning from those locations would be mandated to undergo 14 days of quarantine.

The Virgin Islands is one of the few countries in the world with zero reported active cases of COVID-19.
