VI in a ‘hallmark of sheer anxiety’ over recent events- Hon Penn

Minister for Health and Social Development under the Unity Government, Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) has kicked off his 2023 elections campaign pitch with a letter to the East End/Long Look community, promising to continue representing the district and the Virgin Islands, despite the unmitigated levels of anxiety being experienced by citizens.

In the letter published in his December 2022 edition of the District 8 Newsletter, Hon Penn pointed to a sea of uncertainties in the VI giving rise to a feeling of lost control and anxiety.

“Needless to say, the massive scale of uncertainty brought on by the Commission of Inquiry, the events surrounding our former Premier, disappointment in our leaders, discontentment with the laws and policies that govern our territory, unjust practices, or the loss of loved ones, have brought on a hallmark of sheer anxiety, with overwhelming speed.”

This he said has given rise to perplexity, a feeling of lost control, and strong emotional disturbance in being experienced in the VI amongst some common enemies facing the people of the VI.

In the letter published in his December 2022 edition of the District 8 Newsletter, Hon Penn pointed to a sea of uncertainties in the VI, as giving rise to a feeling of lost control and anxiety.

VI facing global & local events - Hon Penn

“On a global basis, our democracy is disheveled, our economic pillars are threatened from the pandemic and sanctions, pollution is on the rise, the threat of global warming, global wars, water problems, electricity bills, and escalating food prices are just some of our common enemy,” he added.

Hon Penn questioned how the VI can absorb all the global upheavals and, along with personal challenges, while still maintaining the basic functions, adapting to processes, and preserving the essence of our identity.

To do this, he said the VI has to fight collectively as a community and remain resilient, “As your Eighth District Representative and as part of the Coalition for the Movement of National Unity, I am here with you in this struggle,” he affirmed.

Hon Penn said to confront the challenges he will work collectively to ‘reset the compass’ and face the perplexing issues. He further assured the community that he is committed to meeting the needs of his Eighth District community but on a broader scale, the territory.

“I will help to empower you to discover and implement solutions to resolve our issues. It does not matter whether it is from natural sources, man-made causes, self-inflating circumstances brought on by dishonesty or greed, or global effects,” he detailed.
