VI pantries replenished with non-perishable food items during Education Week

Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports Honourable Sharie B. de Castro (AL) continues to make a positive impact in her efforts to enhance the education system in the Virgin Islands (VI) over the 10 months she has been working in the capacity.

The Minister and other ministry officials just recently handed over a quantity of non-perishable goods to replenish pantries during Education Week 2023, which was observed from March 12 to 19, 2023, under the theme “Virgin Islands Education: Moving Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead”.

The donations were made possible after the Ministry and schools pooled together resources and students and staff members donated the food items towards the worthy cause.

Schools on Virgin Gorda made their donations to the Valley Methodist Church, which operates a community food pantry on the island.

A donation was also made to the Family Support Network (FSN) on Tortola on March 20, 2023.

Inspirational Education Minister

It was only on March 20, 2023, that Hon de Castro came in for high praise by local educator Mrs Ciara Christian- Lavia, who took to social media to thank her for her encouragement.

Mrs Christian- Lavia also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports for motivating educators to make a change while noting that she has never reached this level of motivation in her years as an educator.

The educator acknowledged that being an educator isn’t easy but said this year’s Education Week was one for the books.

Hon de Castro only took up the post of Education Minister in May 2022.
