The new shipment brings the total received in the VI to 35,000.
The new doses received are set to expire at the end of September 2021.
Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL), who was on hand for the receipt of the doses, expressed gratitude to the UK government for the additional supply.
“It is critical that we actually acknowledge that they are countries in the world who cannot afford this, they are countries in th world who in terms of the vaccine hesitancy have been greater,” he said.
The Health Minister also revealed that 81 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from the last vaccine batch had to be disposed on August 31, 2021.
He said while active confirmed cases of the virus have increased in the VI, the vaccines will still provide some form of benefit to the persons taking it.
‘We have to be mindful of the fact that the virus is present among us, we cannot relax ourselves, we have to adhere to the protocols and this AstraZeneca, this has been the proven fact as to why we don’t have more [cases],’ Hon Malone said.
