During the cabinet meeting of November 10, 2021, Cabinet also approved the set up working groups/committees within the relevant ministries/departments to advise Cabinet on activities to be held to commemorate the holidays and to formulate a communication strategy for the same.
As such, for the Anniversary of the Birthday of H. Lavity Stoutt, that event will now be chaired by the Premier’s Office and Sovereign’s Birthday will be chaired by the Deputy Governor’s Office.
Virgin Islands Day will be chaired by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture and committee members would include: PS/Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture or designate; PS/Premier’s Office or designate; PS/DGO or designate; Director of Culture or designate; Director of Youth Affairs and Sports or designate among others.
For local religious holidays such as Good Friday, Easter Monday, Whit Monday, and Christmas Day, those Celebrations would be led by individual religious organizations and New Year’s Day Celebrations will also be led by individual religious along with cultural and business organizations.
For the Commemoration of the 1949 Great March and the Restoration of the Legislative Council Holiday, that event will fall under the responsibility of the House of Assembly.
The Committee members would include the Clerk of the House of Assembly or a designate; Permanent Secretary from the Premier’s Office or a designate; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries, and Agriculture or designate and the Director of Culture or designate and the Director of Virgin Islands Studies Unit, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College or designate amongst others.
