Virgin Gorda airport reopens after second closure in months
The Taddy Bay Airport on Virgin Gorda has once again reopened to the travelling public following another closure due to an operational issue with its rescue and fire-fighting services vehicle.
The BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) confirmed the reopening of the airport on Sunday, January 12 after making repairs to the vehicle.
“The technical team at the Authority completed the required repairs and performed the necessary checks on the fire appliance during the evening of January 11, 2020, ensuring that it is fully functional,” Acting Managing Director of BVIAA, Clive Smith said.
The BVIAA, who had advised persons scheduled to travel through that airport to reroute, apologised for all inconveniences caused during the seven-day closure which started from the January 6.
This marks the second occasion since being purchased 14 months ago that the vehicle’s malfunction caused the airport to close.
Premier Andrew Fahie had explained during the first closure last August that the absence of a proper facility to house the firetruck contributed to the vehicle experiencing a malfunction during that said month.
