VIslander Major Kirt D. Cline is part of President Trump’s medical team

With the spotlight on US President Donald J. Trump’s medical team following his positive test for COVID-19, it has also resulted in a sense of pride in the Virgin Islands, with one of the medical team members hailing from the [British] Virgin Islands.

President Trump’s medical staff was introduced to the media by Dr Sean P. Conley, Physician to the President, during an update on the President’s condition yesterday, October 3, 2020.

Among them was local boy and Army Nurse, Major Kirt D. Cline, who was the lone black person featured in the medical team.

Major Cline, who has also worked with the Burn Flight Team from the US Army Institute of Surgical Research Burn Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, is the son of well-known local contractor, Daniel Cline aka ‘Pops’ of Cane Garden Bay and retired nurse, Cheryl Bennison of Belle Vue.

Major Cline’s siblings are popular chef, Mr Neil Cline and former Olympian Keita Cline.

The US Army Nurse attended the Cane Garden Bay Primary School (now Ivan Dawson Primary School) and the then BVI High School (now Elmore Stoutt High School).

VI pride

Major Cline’s father, Daniel Cline, told Virgin Islands News Online the family is proud of Kirt’s achievements and noted that his phone “has been blowing up” ever since it was revealed that his son was part of the Presidential Medical Staff.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; Even when he is old he will not depart from it,” Mr Cline quoted Proverbs 22:6, adding that the family always encouraged his son to live by biblical principles.

“He is just doing his work, he is a smart kid just like his father,” Mr Cline quipped, adding that he is happy to hear his son has created a sense of pride and inspiration among Virgin Islanders.
