Walwyn Shares 'State-of-the-Art' ESHS Plan Rejected By Gov't
The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) administration is at odds with the previous redevelopment plans for the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS), prompting former Education Minister, Myron Walwyn to share schematic plans with residents.
Walwyn continues to plead with the Government to incorporate the previous plans into the new plans.
"We will only have one chance to re-develop ESHS in a manner that provides the best learning environment for our children. Let us put down the politics and deliver something that we can be proud of," Walwyn stated.
According to Walwyn, the previous plan was approved by the Caribbean Development Bank in 2017 which included a state of the art auditorium/ gymnasium/ cafeteria, state of the art science labs etc, classrooms outfitted with smart boards and other technological learning devices, teachers’ lounge, training rooms etc.
He said that the $13M education reform package also included a new primary school for BFEC in Virgin Gorda, which he indicated also exists.
"I humbly suggest that we take another look at what we are about to do. Let us incorporate the best of both plans if necessary but deliver something that would serve the needs of our community for the next three decades," Walwyn pointed out.
He stated education is the axis upon which everything else in a country turns. According to Walwyn, the delivery of that service to 'our young people, in particular, requires careful and deliberate thought.
The Government has dismissed the previous plan, pointing out that there were two pre-fabricated buildings that would not be appropriate given the experience of the hurricanes of 2017.
The current plans do not contain an auditorium or cafeteria.
