Warning in effect! Hazardous sea conditions forecast for BVI

A small craft warning remains in effect over the British Virgin Islands as hazardous sea conditions are expected across the territory within the next 24 hours.
This is according to the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) which published on social media on Friday that the forecasted conditions present a high risk of rip currents for most local beaches.

“Small Craft Warning remains in effect as marine conditions will continue to deteriorate during the next few days with seas increasing up to 14 feet by Saturday,” the DDM stated.

“Fresh to strong winds up to 28 knots with higher gusts, associated to a surface high pressure to the north, will generate hazardous seas up to 12 feet across portions of the local waters,” the DDM added.

Patches of moisture with clouds and showers are also expected to continue throughout the day as a result of winds blowing from the east of the territory.

“Maximum temperatures are forecast to peak in the mid-80s across lower elevations. Winds will be out of the east to northeast at 15 to 30 mph with higher gusts,” the DDM further said.

The small craft warning was originally announced for the BVI by the DDM on Thursday January 9.
