‘We have officially entered talking season’- Hon Flax-Charles

Jr Minister for Trade and Economic Development, Hon Shereen D. Flax-Charles (AL) says politicians and aspiring politicians in the Virgin Islands (VI) have officially gone on campaign mode for the 2023 constitutionally due elections.

Hon Flax-Charles made the statements during the annual First District Report 2022 event held at Cappoon’s Bay Recreational Ground on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

Politicians starting campaigns in 'full strength' - Hon Flax Charles

“Not too many days ago I got the nudge that we have officially entered talking season. Of course, I know what this means in our culture. What we mean is that politicians are beginning their campaigning in full strength.”

Hon Flax-Charles added; however, that the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) team does not believe in a temporary or reactive ‘talking season,’ rather, the team has been diligently engaged in acting and delivering.

“It goes without saying that the First District is one that has consistently seen results over the years, you have stuck with your champion and he has stuck with you, continuing to execute, act and deliver on the promises made over the course.”

Hon Flax-Charles added, “I am honored to be a part of our Premier and all the team’s earnest effort to transform not only this district and community but all across our beautiful shores to become a territory, ready to engage with the dynamics of the new and emerging global market.”

Meanwhile, the Jr Minister said the First District for many years has always been to her, a sort of personification of the culture of the Virgin Islands.

“This area is so beautifully rich in history and contains so many of the landmarks of our heritage I can be honest and say that I have been inspired by the artistry of your murals to recreate many similar across the islands.”

Hon Shereen Flax-Charles said at the forefront of a potent economy are the youths who have the creativity, progressive thinking, and energy to spark real sustainable and lasting change in the VI.

More support for youths in the VI

“It is high time that we better incorporate all people and culture into our tourism product. This is one of the ways in which we will reinvigorate our national economy, by re-introducing new products and new elements to all domestic markets.

Hon Flax-Charles said at the forefront of a potent economy are the youths who have the creativity, progressive thinking, and energy to spark real sustainable, and lasting change in the VI.

“This is why, with the continued support of the Premier, I am eager to continue developing and launching programmes, projects, and initiatives to empower and engage our young entrepreneurs.”
