Well-known taximan shot during armed home robbery

Well-known taxi operator, Eric Mathias, Sr was shot and injured during an armed robbery in Horse Path, Tortola on Wednesday, December 4.
His current condition is not known but police said the incident happened while he was at home.

Law enforcers said he was held at gunpoint by an unknown man moments after arriving at his place of residence late Wednesday.

The gunman reportedly told Mathias to “put everything in the bag”. However, the taximan was shot while trying to hide behind a column. The gunman escaped on foot.

“The suspect is described as a male who is tall and slim built. At the time he was wearing all black with a mask on his face,” the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said in a subsequent media release Thursday afternoon.

“Persons with information into this incident and the identity of this suspect are asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department through the RVIPF’s access number 311. Persons can also call the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368- 9339,” the police added.
